The Sunshine Community Foundation Mission
The Sunshine Community Foundation supports the work of the Sunshine Cathedral by providing professionally planned and designed capital campaigns to renovate and refurbish our facilities. We also provide financial stability through the long term efforts of a sustained planned giving program called our Pillars Society. Funds for each of these efforts are invested in one of the Foundation’s designated endowment funds, which may use principal and interest to benefit the activities of the Sunshine Cathedral and its campus.
The Foundation also supports the Cathedral by providing professional leadership and guidance in the areas of strategic planning and the financial development.

History
The Sunshine Community Foundation, Inc., originally founded in 1999 to benefit the Sunshine Cathedral, now reaches beyond the three acre campus and the ministry of the Cathedral to support the community of more than 20 organizations that make the campus their home, and beyond to a broad spectrum of activities in the gay and lesbian community and the larger community of south Florida and the Caribbean.
The campus has four buildings: the Walt Lawrence & Stephen Lewis Center for Worship and the Arts which is home to the Sunshine Cathedral and also serves as stage and theater for concerts and shows for groups such as the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus, the Flamingo Freedom Band, Lambda Chorale and the Seniors Group–SAGE.
How You Can Help Make a Nonprofit Donation Online!
Voluntary philanthropy can lead to your increased activity in the community and a better quality of life for you and your loved ones. Voluntary philanthropy can take several forms. Among those most popular are:
· Current, outright gifts to charitable organizations.
· Beneficiary designations in wills, insurance, or retirement.
· Use charitable trusts to benefit the donor and the charity.
How has your organization made a difference in the community?
The Sunshine Community Foundation campus provides a home for 20+ LGBTQ groups. The Sunshine Cathedral offers worship at 3 weekly services in a free, open, progressive and positive atmosphere. Our Worship Center transforms into a spectacular performance center for concerts, theatrical, musical, vocal and other events. It’s available to all. Our social services arm, SunServe, offers counseling, senior day-care and support groups for youth, transgender and those in all stages of recovery. And, Light University provides adult education classes each quarter and is accredited by the State of Florida for religious study. Some say we are the most active spiritual-based LGBT campus in the US.
